Watching Korean Dramas and Movies and Listening to the KPOP Music are my best hobbies in my life. Through these hobbies I really learn so many things about myself and about life and love. And I think I will not be weary to do these things because doing these things are my happiness.
Aside from watching and listening about Korean stuffs. I also love to learn the Korean language and their culture. So one of the best things happened in my life is when I became a UP Student. Because I know that the university offers a course about Korean Language so when the enlistment started. I never had a doubt to take Koreyano 10 as my Language Elective and planning to take the other Korean courses even if it's not required in my curriculum because i really love to learn the language no matter how hard it is.
Chapter 1 - The Foundation (Korean Alphabets, Greetings, Self-Introduction)
This is the foundation of learning the Korean Language. And as a student of Korean Language, I really memorized the Korean Alphabets and learn how to write it properly. Aside from the powerpoint and lessons that Sir Jay R gave us, this video also helped me a lot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdiR-6e1h0o, especially the song. :)
When I already learn how to wrote and read the Korean alphabets, I really feel so happy because I feel that I'm starting to learn about the language I really want know. Actually, I keep practicing through writing the 한글 version of my favorite korean song that time "Because I Miss You" by Jung Yong Hwa. And I also tried to sing it by just looking and reading what I wrote. (And the result is: It's like I'm not singing the song. It's like I'm reading an "ABAKADA" like a nursery student.) But even if it's hard, I still keep practicing because I really want to learn the language.
After we discussed how to read and how to write the Korean Alphabets. Of course, we discussed about some simple greeting in Korean Language like "안녕하세요" commonly means "Hello", "잘 지내요?" means "Are you doing well?", "괜찮아요" means "It's OK, "실례해요" means "Excuse Me", "고마워요/감사해요" means "Thank You",미안해요/죄송해요means "You're welcome", "미안해요/죄송해요" means "I'm sorry/Pardon me" and many more. We also learn some simple classroom expressions in order to have a good interaction in the classroom like "공부합시다" means "Let's study", "잘 들으세요" means "Please listen carefully", "다시 들으세요" means "Please listen again", "알겠어요? " means "do you understand?", "질문이 있어요?" means "do you have any questions?" and many more.
We also learn about how to introduced ourselves like this:
- 안녕하십니까!?
- 처음 뵙겠습니다.
- 제 이름은 Jhea 입니다. (저는 Jhea 입니다.)
- (저는) Caloocan 에서 왔습니다.
- 지금(저는) Caloocan에 삽니다.
- 만나서 반갑습니다.
Learning how to read and write the Korean Alphabets, The Simple Greetings and The Self-Introduction makes me feel so good and happy. Because these are the foundations of the Korean Language and learning these things is called a "sign" that I'm starting to go to the next level where complicated lessons are in my way.
Chapter 2 - Preparations (Preparation 1-4)
This lesson is called "준비" means prepare/preparations. In this lesson, I learn the use of "이에요 and 예요". I also learn how to ask a person's name, person's nationality, person's profession. Here are some example conversations:
A: 이름이뭐에요? (What's your name?)
B: 제야예요. (I'm Jhea.)
A: 오느나라사람아에요?
B: 피리핀 사람이에요.
Aside from this simple questions, I also learn how to ask "What is this?". I learn so many vocabularies about things like the Korean words for bag, chair, clock, book, cellphone, telephone, pencil, eyeglass, eraser, ballpen, pencil case and many more.
In preparation 3 and 4, I really learned so many things. This preparation is really exciting,. In this lesson, I learn how to count, I learn the Korean words for beer, water, coffee and etc. I also learn what to call in some important places like the school, restroom, bank, hospital and many more. I learned how to "Where?". I also learned how to say "Thank You and I'm Sorry" ("감사합니다 and 미안해요") in Korean Language, although I'm really familiar with the words because I heard it when I'm watching Korean Dramas/Movies.
This preparations really helped me. Because in this lesson, I think I feel that I'm prepared to learn the next level of the Korean Language. If i'm not mistaken, our first long exam is about this lesson and I think my score is not that great. When I found that my score is not that great, I kinda feel so upset but I know it's my fault because I didn't keep practicing and I think I crammed in reviewing the lesson. So the moral lesson there, don't take it easy (I mean the Korean Language). You must really study and keep practicing so the results of application will be so good.
Chapter 3 - Lesson 1,2, and 3 (Oh My NUMBERS! but I love VERBS!)
In lesson 1, I learned the Sino-Korean Numbers. It is the combination of the pure numbers I learned in the Preparations and Chinese Numbers. This lesson was very confusing because the numbers are mixed. It took me a long time before I memorize how to use the Sino-Korean numbers for indicating a cellphone number, the time, the birthday, prices, amount and etc. And I think until now, i cant perfectly answer a direct question about numbers in Korean Language. But even if it's hard and confusing for me to memorize these stuffs about numbers I still have fun with this lesson because of the way our professor taught us about this part. Our professor has a good teaching style, that's why we survived this lesson. Another thing in this lesson is our professor also taught us how to have a discount in Korean Language. So that when we go to Korea, we know how to interact with the vendors. :)
Here are the example phrases for discounting in Korean Markets:
1. 좀 깎아 주세요. (please lower the price)
2. 저는 학생이에요. (i'm a student)
3. 돈이 없어요./돈이 조금만 있어요. (I don't have enough money)
Our professor also told us that we must say it in a nice way like "오빠,좀 깎아 주세요. 학생이에요" orinstead of "오빠" use "누나" or say good words like if he/she will give you discount you will bring your korean friends, something like that.
In lesson 2, I learned the VERBS. And actually this is my favorite lesson. Because it's "재미있어요" means "to be fun". I really learn so many action verbs in this lesson and aside from it's fun. It's easier than the other lesson. I also learn when will i put the "아요", "어요" and "해요". And of course my favorite verb is "먹요" and "사랑해요" means "to eat" and "to love".
I also learn about the use of (~들) - it's for plural form. The marker (을 or 를), we use these markers for the object. It's like "미지씨가 진구를 만나요". We also discussed about the when to use the "에" and "에서".
I also learned this important verbs that I might used in higher level of learning the Korean Language:
(비자를) 받다 to receive (visa)
(커피를) 마시다 to drink (coffee)
(영화를) 보다 to watch (movie)
(음악을) 듣다 to listen (to music)
(일본어를) 가르치다 to teach (Japanese)
(책을) 빌리다 to borrow (book)
(춤을) 추다 to dance (a dance)
(친구를) 만나다 to meet (a friend)
(컴퓨터를) 배우다 to learn (computer)
(테니스를) 치다 to play (hit) (tennis)
(텔레비전을) 보다 to watch (TV)
(한국어를) 공부하다 to study (Korean language)
I also learned the days of the week.
월요일 Monday
화요일 Tuesday
수요일 Wednesday
목요일 Thursday
금요일 Friday
토요일 Saturday
일요일 Sunday
In this lesson, we discussed also what kind of food, dramas, movies, music do we like. And it's really fun
because it's like were getting to know each other. Korean words that we commonly used are "뮤슨" means
"which kind", "줗아해요" means "to like" and "싫어해요" means to dislike.
I really had fun in this lesson.
Chapter 4 - Lesson 4, 5 and 6 (재미있어요, 사랑해요)
In this lesson, I learned about the past form of the verb.
- V/Adj. + -았 어요
살다 살+았어요 살았어요
오다 오+ 았어요 왔어요
가다 가+ 았어요 갔어요
- V/Adj. + -었 어요
먹다 먹+ 었어요 먹었어요
주다 주+ 었어요 줬어요
마시다 마시+ 었어요 마셨어요
- 하다 => -했어요
말하다 말하+였어요 말했어요
공부하다 공부하+였어요 공부했어요
피곤하다 피곤하+였어요 피곤했어요
I also learned about different directions:
위 over/ on top/ above
아래 below
앞 front
뒤 back/ behind
옆 side/ beside
안 inside
밖 outside
사이 in between
왼쪽 left side
오른쪽 right side
I already know how to ask questions about where can i found this place, where i can found this thing. I also learn the use of (으로 and 로). It's a marker for purpose of going.
I learned about to ask "How will I go to this place?" and "How long it will take?". I also learn different markers like the "-입니다 " and "-슴니다". "-주세요" and "-세요 "-지 마세요" "-고 싶어요". Learning this important markers helped me to understand the Korean Language easier.
This lessons really taught me a lot. And I will never forget this because it's one of the important basic part of the Korean Language and I might encounter these words in Korean 11.
Chapter 5 - Semester Ends
Our last activity in our Korean class is the review and the oral exam. First, the review was really great. We taught about the lessons that we didn't finish in the last meetings and good for us because while we are learning we have something to eat, because our kind professor provided a chips and we really love it. Some of us had a poem reading presentation, it was really fun. (*Flashbacks* - I checked my email and I was like "OMG! I dont want to read a poem" but i have no choice and I need to practice and be ready for the presentation tomorrow. So I've searched about the poem assigned to me and then find some ways in order to feel the poem. Then, I found a song. And actually, i love the song, and i love the poem and until now i'm LSS with the song ^_^)
Here's the poem:
진달래꽃
By 김소월
영변(寧邊)에 약산(藥山)
진달래꽃
아름 따다 가실 길에 뿌리오리다.
|
Azalea flowers of Yaksan at Yong-Byun!
Let me pluck an armful and bring 'em,
To spread on your way to leave.
| |
가시는 걸음 걸음
놓인 그 꽃을
사뿐히 즈려 밟고 가시옵소서.
|
Step after step on your way,
Be pleased to tread softly and tenderly
On those strewn flowers.
| |
나 보기가 역겨워
가실 때에는
죽어도 아니 눈물 흘리오리다.
|
When you’d depart in distaste of my show,
Let me never, ever shed any tears
Ev'n to my pale death.
|
And here's the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeanETYDX3Q
And another thing is our oral exam. I really feel so nervous about the exam because there are several questions and I don't if I know the answers to that question. The oral exam came and I'm already in the room. And I introduced myself all about the informations, the name, birthday, location of the house, profession and the thing i forgot to review is my cellphone number. Good for me, I kinda still remember the numbers :)) . Then I was asked so many questions and I think I answered all of it but i think i'm like a laptop that lost a WiFi connection and then the WiFi came back then lost again (something like that). I think I didn't perfectly answer all the questions of my professor but I think it's "괜차나요". ^__^
I really love Koreyano 10. And I feel so lucky because I have a good professor. Thanks to Sir JayR! :)
I had fun and I really learned a lot. ^__^
